We have had two teachers and two students test positive. We’ve quarantined students from both the elementary and the high school due to COVID19. All close contacts have been made. The school will be entering Phase Orange in the morning. We appreciate your patience as we work with health officials to meet county guidelines so we can keep school open. After missing 3 months of school last spring, we are hopeful the 9 days we haven’t had students at school this year will be the only ones. I know these times are stressful for everyone everywhere. People on all sides of the issue are frustrated and angry. We have kids coming to school telling us they are depressed, isolated, and lonely. Our counselors are working hard to meet these kids' needs. Teachers are trying to connect with kids every way possible and make them feel at home, connected, and cared for. I am proud of both the children and the staff of Rich Hill R-IV School District standing strong this year. We know school is the best place for kids to be every day and we are doing everything we can to meet kids’ needs while staying in compliance with county, state, federal, and department of education requirements. We are doing our best with the things we can control and managing our best with the things out of our control. Thank you.

Pennies for Patients starts tomorrow.
Crazy socks and flannel, and Team Thomas shirts or blue.

This is a friendly reminder that there is no school on Monday in honor of MLK Day! Enjoy the 3 day weekend and see you all Tuesday.

This is Superintendent Kevin Goddard. We will be having school tomorrow starting in Phase Orange. Most of our quarantined staff and students are returning tomorrow. We will also have junior high boys and girls basketball at 5:30pm tonight. Tomorrow night, the 5-6 Christmas concert will be at 6pm and the 7-8 concert will be at 7pm. Only two guests are allowed per student. The auditorium will be disinfected between performances.

This is Superintendent Kevin Goddard with an important announcement from the Rich Hill School District. Please listen to the entire message as there are several important announcements. Due to both principals being ill with COVID symptoms and under quarantine, the district having several other employees in quarantine, and everyone having spent the holidays with family members from outside the area, we are going to go to PHASE RED for Monday and Tuesday. During that time, you need to work on the quarterly packets sent home by teachers. Middle and high school will follow your class schedule for google meet. Teachers will be available via email to assist students and can call you if you are needing help. Vo-Tech kids will still meet at the high school to go to Vo-Tech. There will be no meals served during these two days. At this time, the junior high game on Tuesday night is still scheduled. Please wear your mask and physically distance in the stands as much as possible. The Christmas program for grades 5-8 is still on for Wednesday night. Remember that each student is allowed 2 people to come watch the performance. We apologize for any inconvenience this change causes families. We will try to stay in PHASE RED as short a time as possible. When we return, we will be in PHASE ORANGE until further notice. Thank you and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Due to close contact quarantines just issued by the health department, the junior high girls game for tonight has been cancelled. The junior high boys will play an A game at 5:30pm followed by 2 quarters of B team.

The High School has two staff members who have tested positive with COVID19. All close contacts have been notified. Currently the high school has 5 active COVID19 cases, 32 individuals quarantined, and the elementary doesn’t have any active cases and 4 students quarantined. Tomorrow is our last day this week. We are looking forward to the Thanksgiving Break. Please rest up, stay healthy, and if you have any symptoms, go get tested. We look forward to having everyone back healthy on November 30th.

The Rich Hill R-IV School District Board of Education has a Board Member Vacancy due to a resignation. The Board will fill the seat at the December 9th Board Meeting to serve the remainder of the term until it expires in April of 2021. District Residents interested in filling the seat must submit a letter to the board expressing reasons for interest in the position by 4pm on December 7, 2020 to Central Office, 703 N. 3rd.

The state is allowing schools to implement a mask-mandate that would let students and staff in quarantine come to school for classes. The following survey explains the details further, please respond. Data will be shared with the school board so they can make a final decision.

Team Thomas shirts are on sale until December 1. Please include money with all orders. Return to Mrs. D Breckenridge in the high school and Mrs. Gayman in the elementary.

The high school just received notice of a high school student who tested positive for COVID19. The Football Awards Reception for tonight has been postponed. Administration is making phone calls to affected individuals. The health departments have been running behind so we do not know when official calls from the health department will occur. We appreciate your patience and understanding as the school attempts to comply with state, DESE, and Vernon and Bates County guidelines. Our goal is to keep kids in school as much as possible. While we haven’t had a large number of cases, close contact is keeping teachers out of the classrooms and we are having trouble getting enough substitute teachers. If we reach a point where we can’t find enough substitutes, we will begin by going virtual in grades 9-12. If necessary, we will send 6-8 virtual, and as a last resort we will go virtual preschool through 12th grade. Again, thank you for your patience. Our teachers and staff love your kids and while we know these changes are hard on families, we hope you understand these ups and downs are stressful on us too. Take care Tigers. Keep us and the all of the students of Rich Hill in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

Due to a continued increase in COVID19 cases, another HS student today as well as several individuals waiting on test results, the district is going to a modified Phase ORANGE effective immediately. The modifications are based on lessons learned during the first 2 months of school. MS/HS will be stretched to 4 lunch shifts so physical distancing can occur while kids eat. Elementary will still eat in their classrooms during ORANGE. The temperature checks at the door are being eliminated since they don't give an accurate reading when a student comes in from the cold. Teachers will look for physical symptoms and send to the nurse if a temperature check is necessary. This message will go out as an all-call this evening.
